Join our dedicated and talented team of individuals all focused on creating the best products in the marketplace. We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Search and Data Tools Engineer (Contractor) for our Glendale, CA offices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, implement, maintain, and test leading-edge tools features and functionality using Ruby On Rails.
Create robust large-scale production applications to improve Search & Data, Quality & Management of a significant amount of data.
Be or quickly become the TDD and RSpec/Cucumber subject matter expert/opinion leader.
Create prototypes very quickly and re-architect them for production readiness.
Take research projects and work collaboratively to move them to engineering.
Provide platform support and maintenance.
Document code just enough to communicate system designs.
Play an active role in the evolution of Search & Data Tools products.
Develop or use deep expertise in multiple areas including APIs, Data Mining, Data Parsing, Master Data Management, Text Analysis, MapReduce or Hive.
Play with or build bleeding edge technologies just to see if you can do it better, faster.
REQUIREMENTS
Broad development experience, preferably related to building data management tools.
Must have significant understanding of and experience building within MVC frameworks either in RoR, or any of the Python, PHP frameworks. (samples required).
Must have significant understanding and experience with TDD, TestUnit, RSpec, Cucumber or equivalent testing framework (samples required).
Strong Java, Python, Perl, PHP expertise can be substituted for RoR given a strong initiative/capability shown for the ability to pick up RoR.
2-4 years of hands on experience and expertise in writing Ruby on Rails, Ruby, SQL, Java, Perl, Shell, PHP.
Significant hands on experience developing data-driven applications using Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, or other RDBMS.
Solid understanding of data processing, data mining, and data analysis.
A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
Must be self-motivated, have great communication skills (work with product, qa and other dev teams), innovative and engineering excellence, and the ability to adapt to change.
Should have an understanding of CSS and an opinion on the benefits/trade-offs between the different JavaScript frameworks and the ability to use Prototype anyways.·
Ability to work on JavaScript one day and MapReduce jobs the next day.
Active open source member/contributor preferred
Education:
· BS in Computer Science or related engineering field required. MS and/or PhD a plus.
