Propulsion\Propellant Test & Services Technician Sr
NOTE: This is an hourly technician position to support operations at the Propulsion Systems Field Laboratory based in TAFT, California. The candidate chosen for the job must live close enough to the TAFT facility to comfortably commute to/from work, or be willing to relocate within reasonable driving distance of the facility. Job duties are primarily focused on the mechanical support of conducting acceptance tests and final integrated system tests of spacecraft propulsion systems. Duties also include support of spacecraft propellant loading operation at various launch sites around the globe. Propulsion system testing and propellant loading are deemed as Hazardous Operations. Safe handling of HAZARDOUS MATERIALS (Spacecraft Propellants) during load operations is part of the position duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Ability to read, understand, and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications. Fabrication/assembly/disassembly of various mechanical systems. Plumbing skills desired. Proficiency in the use of general and precision measuring devices (e.g., Multimeters, oscilloscopes, calipers, micrometers, etc.) and associated calibration requirements. Knowledge of industrial control systems and operation of various electronic test equipment. Troubleshoot/repair digital and analog electronic/electromechanical systems. Ability to plan and evaluate system processes and equipment performance. Willing to learn new tasks to enhance performance.

Typical Education/Experience
High School Diploma. Standard Boeing Satellite Development Center factory training (GLR, ESD, Spacecraft Safety, Crane operator, etc.) or previous experience/familiarity with propulsion systems and operations is a plus.

Candidate must possess good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic electrical principals. Able to use various types of meters, gauges, oscilloscopes, leak detectors, etc used to collect test data. Familiar with the safe handling of pressurized gases and liquids. Must have the ability to work from elevated platforms and in areas of the spacecraft that have limited accessibility. Knowledgeable and observant of all safety requirements and qualified in the operation of safety equipment including air respirators and Self Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) suit. Additionally, the candidate must have the ability to work from engineering specifications and instructions, test procedures, schematics, oral and written instructions. Performs incidental related duties as assigned or required. Employment is contingent on passing a special physical including treadmill. Must be able to carry a 30 lb. backpack for up to 4 hours while suited up in SCAPE. Willing to work any shift and overtime including weekends and holidays as required to support test/launch schedules. Domestic and foreign travel is required in support of launch operations. Ability to Obtain Interim (Pre-Start) and Final Clearance (Post Start) - US Citizenship Required.
